Cash seizure: VHP refutes BJD's allegations

Bhubaneswar: Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) today refuted the ruling BJD's allegations that two persons who were detained with Rs 40.50 lakh cash in Mahulpali of Bargarh district on Saturday were the members of Bajrang Dal and VHP.

VHP Odisha organisation (western part) secretary Sarat Kumar Pradhan in a press release claimed the person who was arrested for taking Rs 40.50 lakh cash in by-poll bound Bijepur had no links with the VHP and Bajrang Dal.

He also slammed the BJD to drag the VHP and Bajrang Dal to political controversies.

Notably, BJD spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member Pratap Deb told media persons here that the persons who were arrested in connection with the seizure of cash was Bajrang Dal activists.

On Saturday, Padampur police seized Rs 40.5 lakh from a car while it was on its way from Padampur to Bargarh at Mahulpali police check post. The police found the cash concealed in the car and detained Rajesh Agrawal and Om Prakash Agrawal who were carrying the money.

Sources said Agrawal failed to provide satisfactory answer on the source of money. The cash was meant for use in Bijepur by-election by the BJP.
