Fire reduces 70 houses of Angul village to ashes

Angul: Fire gutted nearly 70 houses of Kartapata village in Angul district on Sunday. No human life was lost. Nearly 20 families were rendered homeless in the fire mishap.

The fire that started from a thatched house spread fast to the others structures before the villagers could act. Fire tenders from Angul were rushed to the spot.

According to sources, the fire broke out first at a thatched house of a family in the village while a food was being prepared for a feast at around 3.30 pm and subsequently engulfed other thatched houses.

Sources said the fire was so furious that it was not possible to save the houses and most people could not even save their valuables.

The victim family members were given shelter at the village school while district administration officials said that assistance will be extended to the victim families only after proper assessment.
