Bhubaneswar: The high-pitched Bijepur bypoll took an ugly turn on with shoes being hurled at Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday evening during a public meeting in Kumbhari village in Barpali. The Biju Janta Dal (BJD) leaders have condemned the attack on the Chief Minister and said that this shows the hooliganism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), as they fear of defeat in the polls.
Meanwhile, BJD activists have staged protest under the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Janta Maidan here today against the shoe attack on Chief Minister.
The party workers were shouting anti-BJP slogans. The activists demand stringent action against the hooliganism and violence made by Bharatiya JanataParty workers.
Many senior leaders of the BJD, Ganjam's Gopalpur MLA Pradeep Panigraphy, MLA Bijay Mohanty spokesperson Sasmit Mohanty, Sulochana Mohanty were present in the protest.
BJD spokepserson Sasmit Patra said, 'BJP has turned violent, and have no agenda and has only one agenda of violence.'
Patra alleging the involvement of the BJP have demanded stringent action against those involved in the incident.
