Bijepur by-poll: Presiding Officer axed for influencing voters

Bhubaneswar: Presiding officer of booth no-193 has been placed under suspension as he was found trying to influence voters to vote in favour of a particular candidate during the voting for the by-poll to the Bijepur Assembly constituency.


The suspended official is identified as Bahadur Sahu. He is the Headmaster of Thikipali Project UP School under Bheden block in Bargarh district, sources said.


Voting for the by-poll began amid tight security from 8 pm at 281 booths in Bijepur. The voting continued till 5 pm. The results will be announced on February 28.


The death of Congress MLA Subal Sahu in August last year had necessitated the bypoll.
