Budget session of Odisha Assembly to begin tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: The Budget session of the Odisha Assembly will commence here tomorrow with the address of Governor SC Jamir to the House.

The session will continue till May 5 in two phases. The first part of the session will continue from March 20 to March 31. After a recess, the session will resume on April 11 and go on until May 5.

Finance Minister Shashi Bhusan Behera will present the state's annual budget for the year 2018-19 on March 23. Appropriation bill of the full budget will be passed on April 30.

The session 20 is likely to be a stormy affair as the opposition Congress and BJP are going to raise a host of issues to corner the Government.

After the victory in the by-election to Bijepur Assembly constituency with an overwhelming margin, the BJD is likely to target the four-year-old Narendra Modi Government at the Centre for non-fulfilment of promises.

Besides, the BJD will resort to its old tactic of Central neglect and raise issues including non-revision of minimum support price (MSP) on paddy and rejection of the State Government's demand to create three new railway divisions under the East Coast Railway (ECR).
