Sec 144 extended to villages near Bhadrak town

Bhadrak: The Bhadrak district administration on Thursday morning extended imposition of Section 144 of the CrPC to nearby villages of the Bhadrak Municipality anticipating law and order situation during the ongoing Ram Navami celebrations.

Notably the Section 144 has been in force in the town since March 17.

District Collector Gyana Das imposed prohibitory orders as the town was ravaged by communal violence last year leaving many homeless and turning some business establishments into ashes.

Armed forces have been deployed in the town to maintain law and order during the Hindu festival, which is scheduled to continue till March 25.

Notably, more than 30 persons were arrested following communal unrest during a Ram Navami procession on April 5 last year. The violence erupted after a group of people posted offensive remarks on Hindu deities on Facebook.
