Shree Mandir Ratna Bhandar to be examined on March 26, 27

Cuttack/Puri: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will examine status of Ratna Bhandar (Treasury) of Shree Jagannath Temple Puri on March 26 and 27 following directions from Orissa High Court.

The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has filed an affidavit to this effect in the High Court. The next hearing will be held on March 29.

On Tuesday, the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee decided to write to the ASI to examine the status of Ratna Bhandar at the earliest.

The Ratna Bhandar was last opened in 1984 but due to certain reasons the status of the treasury could not carried out.

It was decided in the Managing Committee meeting that the ASI will open the Ratna Bhandar and examine its status in the presence of members of the Ratna Bhandar managing panel sub-committee. If required the ASI will renovate the Ratna Bhandar before repairing the Natamandap.

Earlier in September 2014, the temple Managing Committee, though, had decided to examine the treasury and take stock of ornaments therein it could not implement the decision due to stiff resistance from several quarters.
