Farmers protest non-procurement of paddy, detain Bargarh CSO

Bargarh: Farmers in Bargarh district today detained district Civil Supply Officer (CSO) and Regulated Market Committee officials to in protest against non-procurement of paddy at the designated centres (mandis).
Paddy procurement has been paralysed in the backward district as custom millers have stopped purchasing paddy from the mandis and procuring the same from paddy fields violating the Government guidelines,
Angry over the irregularities, the agitating farmers today detained Bargarh CSO Srikar Majhi and Atabira NAC officials.
Delay in procurement of paddy by the State Government has become a major problem for the farmers due to the onset of monsoon. They fear that bags of paddy stocked at different procurement centres may get spoilt in the rain.
