Rayagada: Dengue scare has gripped the Sadar block of Rayagada district with many residents in the locality, especially Biranarayanpur, suffering from frequent fever and body ache.
'I have been suffering from frequent fever. Besides, the whole body is aching. Though doctors visited my place and handed over some medicines, they did not reveal anything about the disease,' stated Kumari Saraka, an affected resident.
Doctors have visited the area and prescribed medicine to the affected people.
According to sources, the Health department has also collected blood samples and sent them to the Koraput Public Health Laboratory for tests. In the first phase, 42 blood samples have been collected.
'Usually the NS1 virus is found in blood samples of a person suffering from viral fever. Only after five-seven days of fever, blood samples can show the presence of dengue virus. But keeping in view the spread of dengue in other places, we have taken preventive measures,' Chandrika Prasad Das, Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) of Rayagada said.
Earlier of this month, Director of Health Services, Braja Kishore Brahma stated that the season's first dengue death case was reported from a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.
In total, 48 out of the 20,000 blood samples collected have tested positive for dengue this season, added Brahma.
