HEADLINES Truck gets stuck after bridge collapses in Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda: The driver of a Hyva truck had a narrow escape as a bridge in Banjari Panchayat of Jharsuguda district collapsed on Saturday night when the vehicle was passing it.
The chips laden truck got stuck between the concrete bridge and it was pulled out with the help of a JCB machine after several hours of operation.
The mishap occurred when the vehicle was heading towards Hemagiri from Lakhanpur. The bridge named Lotus suddenly collapsed, following which the vehicle got struck midway between the broken concrete of the bridge.
Police reached the spot being informed about the incident and rescued the driver of the truck by the help of a crane.
Owing to the bridge collapse, road communication between the busy road connecting Hemagiri and Belpahad has been disrupted.
The Mahanadi Coalfield Limited (MCL) had constructed the bridge some 20 years back for coal transportation. Later, it was handed over to the Works department for maintenance. However, the department did not conduct any renovation or repair work, local residents alleged.
Meanwhile, the locals of the area demanded for construction of a new bridge in the locality to restore the road connectivity.
