Woman commits suicide due to dowry harassment

Kendrapara: Depressed over repeated torture by her husband and in-laws for dowry, a woman allegedly committed suicide at Andhara village under Pattamundai police limits in Kendrapara district on Sunday.The deceased was identified as Namita Mallick.
Namita married Debasish Mallik, son of Rabindra Mallick of Andhara village two years back. Soon after the marriage, Namita's in-laws began torturing her demanding more dowry.
A few days back Namita informed her family about the torture she was being subjected to in the hands of her in-laws. Debasish and his family members were demanding a car, Namita's family alleged.
Unable to bear the torture, Namita committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her in-laws' house, the family members added.
The deceased's family members lodged a complaint against Debasish and his family members in this regard at Pattamundai police station.
