No Classroom, Anganwadi Centre For Kids In Dhenkanal Village

Dhenkanal: Forget about luxurious air-conditioned classrooms and colourful school buildings, with the unavailability of even a single room and an Anganwadi centre for children, primary education has taken a back seat in Kalada village under Kankadahada block of the district. Around hundred students of five classes of Kalada Primary School are forced to study in the veranda of the school as there is no permanent classroom for them. Adding to the woes, the premises get flooded with water during heavy showers, as such the school is often declared closed.Another student Puspalata Mahanta said, 'Every time it rains, my books get wet due to the leaking terrace of the classroom. If the government provides us a proper pucca classroom we can study.'Moreover, as the Anganwadi Kendra is some three kilometers away from the village, communication to the centre is also difficult on a regular basis, alleged a few residents. He further stated that, if required, the Block Education Officer (BEO) would be asked to submit a report after field inspection following which money will be granted from panchayat fund for the repair of the classrooms and Anganwadi centre.
