Custodial death at Mahakalapada PS: DGP orders Crime Branch probe

Cuttack: Director General of Police (DGP) Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma today ordered Crime Branch inquiry into circumstances, leading to the death of a theft suspect in police custody at Makahalpada police station in Kendrapada district and subsequent law and order problem.
Death of a theft suspect in police custody had triggered tension in Mahakalpada. The local IIC was also suspended on charges of dereliction of duty.Notably, police arrested one Abinash Paitala on Saturday night for stealing a mobile phone of a villager. While the police interrogated him till late in the night and later put in the lockup, he managed to escape. His body was later found hanging from the staircase railing of one Haladhar Mallick's house in the village.
