'Zero Tolerance' On Corrupt Practices By Cops: Police Commissioner

Bhubaneswar: Following a series of allegations against officers, newly appointed police commissioner Satyajit Mohanty today categorically warned officials to keep themselves away from 'corrupt practices'.
'There will be absolutely zero tolerance towards corruption in police. Besides, strict action would be taken against officers and other personnel charged of taking bribes and indulging in any other corrupt practices or harassing people,' said Mohanty.The Police Commissioner's statements come in the wake of arrest of Jatni Inspector-in-charge Sanjeeb Mohanty by Vigilance department over graft charges.Sanjeeb was caught red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a youth from Kudiary village in the area for removing the latter’s name from a case.'Already prompt action is being taken on officers and other personnel against whom allegations of corruption are reported. Basing on allegations that PCR and traffic personnel are demanding and taking money from people, DCP Bhubaneswar and Cuttack have already suspended six personnel,' Mohanty added.Mohanty further informed that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against Jatni IIC after getting a detailed report from Vigilance department.
