Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo Naveen Patnaik turned 73 today. However, Patnaik avoided an extravagant birthday celebration to express solidarity with the people affected by cyclone Titli in some parts of the state.The Chief Minister's Office yesterday had issued a statement for the well-wishers not to throng Naveen Niwas to greet the CM.Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, OPCC Chief Niranjan Patnaik and renowned sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik took to the micro-blogging site to wish Patnaik on his special day.
PM Modi greeted Patnaik and prayed for his long and healthy life. He wrote: 'Best wishes to Odisha CM Shri Naveen Patnaik Ji on his birthday. Naveen Ji is one of India's senior-most leaders who has been serving the people of Odisha for many years. May he lead a long and healthy life.' Born on October 16, 1946, in Cuttack, the BJD supremo turned 73 on Tuesday. In his two decades of political life, the Odisha Chief Minister has always kept his birthday celebration a low-key affair.Naveen has a history of not celebrating his birthday. The biggest scale of his celebration is visitors coming to his residence or office to wish him with flower bouquets.Earlier, in 2013 and 2014, Patnaik had not celebrated his birthday to express his solidarity with the people then affected by cyclones Phailin and Hudhud.
