National Youth Day: Sudarshan Pattnaik's sand art calls for green environment

Bhubaneswar: India celebrates January 12, the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, as National Youth Day and ace sand artist Sudarshan Pattnaik contributed his bit on this day.

The Odisha-born artist created a sand sculpture with a message of 'Youth call for Green #Environment' at Puri beach in Odisha.Swami Vivekananda played a big role in the growing Indian nationalism in the late 19th and 20th century. He was a social reformer, philosopher and thinker.

Born as Narendranath Dutta on 12 January 1863, Swami Vivekananda is considered one of the chief saints of India.At the World's Parliament of Religions in Chicago, in 1893, Vivekananda’s speech made him popular as the Messenger of Indian wisdom to the Western world.

In 1984, Indian Government first declared to celebrate the birthday of Swami Vivekananda i.e. 12 January as National Youth Day. Since then, the National Youth Day is celebrated across the country.Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das and other dignitaries will unveil the 33-feet tall bronze statue of Swami Vivekananda situated at an islet of Ranchi Lake at 4 pm.
