Class X student impregnated in Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur: A minor girl, who passed the Class X annual examination last year, could not go for higher studies after she was allegedly impregnated by a local youth. The matter came to light after the victim along with her mother knocked on the door of the district superintendent of police (SP) for justice.

According to sources, the minor girl was studying in an Ashram school in Jharigaon block last year when she came in contact with a 17-year-old boy of the locality, who lured her into a relationship.Ahead of her annual high school certificate examination, the girl had shifted to her aunt's house in a nearby village. The youth had also visited the village and had maintained physical intimacy with the girl on several occasions on the false promise of marriage. She had learnt about her pregnancy in April last year and the fear of public shame forced her not to take admission in junior college for further studies. She narrated the ordeal to her parents and insisted on the youth for marriage. Although the youth refused to marry her, his family agreed to keep the girl with them. However, they later tortured her and thrown her out of their house. On the other hand, the victim and her family members along with Kadambini Tripathy, the president of Maa Ghara, seeking justice visited the superintendent of police on Tuesday and filed a written complaint.
