TV journalist, assistant attacked in Bolangir, one held

Bolangir: A district-level reporter of a television news channel was critically injured after being attacked by a group of youths for collecting news at Bishnumunda under the Municipality here on Thursday.According to sources, the reporter, Chandrabhanu Molana, and his associate Amarjit Behera were heading to Bhaler area to prepare a news report.
On their way, the duo saw that water from a government water tank was being supplied illegally to a house at Bishnumunda village by using a motor pump. The duo video recorded the illegal practice.Meanwhile, some youths came out of the house and asked the duo to stop recording the incident. The angry youths then attacked the scribe and his associate and snatched their camera and mobile phones. They also passed casteist remarks on Amarjit.
Molana sustained critical injuries in the attack and was rushed to Bolangir hospital. Later, he lodged a complaint with the police, basing on which the police arrested one of the accused. However, Suraj Patel, the prime accused, managed to escape from the village.On the other hand, family members of the accused youths lodged a counter complaint against Molana and his associate.The local journalist association has condemned the attack and demanded protection for working scribes.
