Elephant herd wreaks havoc in Khurda village

Khurda: Panic gripped the locals of Goda village under Begunia block in Khurda district after an elephant herd wreaked havoc in the village today.

According to sources, the jumbo herd strayed into the village in search of food and damaged the standing crops besides eating away the paddy cultivated on acres of land.Reportedly, the elephant herd also went on a rampage damaging the boundary of a house.On being informed, forest department officials rushed to the village and launched an operation to drive away the jumbos into the wild.While the movement of elephants is being constantly monitored, necessary steps to deal with the elephant menace are underway, the forest officials said.
