This day, that year: India lift World Cup for the first time at West Indies' expense

The Indian Cricket team has made everyone raise their heads after winning at the 1983 World Cup. During the final match against West Indies, India won the match with just 140 runs. In order to surpass West Indies, Mohinder Amarnath picked three wickets to put an end to West Indies team. The entire Indian team was led by Kapil Dev in 1983 during the World Cup.

On 25th June 1983, Kapil Dev's team won the prestigious World Cup trophy. It means it's the same day that happened 36 years ago. The entire Team India lifted the World Cup trophy by defeating West Indies just by 43 runs in the final match. With the 1983 World Cup victory for India, it has build up confidence among the cricketers.People consider it as the golden moment in the history of Indian cricket which was commenced under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni. However, the foundation was actually established by the legendary cricketer Kapil Dev who is responsible for raising the prominence of India by winning World Cup on this day in the year 1983.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a throwback picture of Kapil Dev while receiving the World Cup 1983 trophy on the official Twitter account. It wrote a tweet that reads, 'On this day in 1983 - India won the World Cup and held the trophy high at Lord's - Memories to last a lifetime.As of now, different cricket playing countries have some sort of fear whenever they play the match against India. In the Indian cricket team, there are some biggest names. In the past, the scenario was completely different. None of them have recognized the Indian team. Even then, it could be able to win in the World Cup in the year 1983.

In the 1983 Indian cricket team, the players include Krishnamachari Srikkanth, Sunil Gavaskar, Sandeep Patil, Kapil Dev, Mohinder Amarnath, Yashpal Sharma, Roger Binny, Syed Kirmani, Madan Lal, Kirti Azad, and Balwinder Sandhu. Out of 60 overs, the Indian team could score 183 runs in 54.4 overs. In the ongoing World Cup, Virat Kohli is leading the Indian team as a captain. Currently, the team is in its 3rd position in the points table.
