Holy Sravan's First Monday Today:Devotees Throng Shiva Shrines

Sawan or 'Shravan' month is one of the most sacred Hindu months and is dedicated to Lord Shiva in India. The month of Shravan 2019 is from 17 July to 15 August. This is the fifth month in the traditional Hindu lunar calendar and it is considered one of the holiest months dedicated to Lord Shiva.

In this month, on every Monday, in all the temples, Shravan is celebrated as Somvar, which hangs in Shiva temple, baths with holy water and milk throughout the day. Every devotee gives auspicious leaves, flowers, holy water and milk to Lord Shiva on Monday . 

The famous Lingaraj temple of Lord Shiva attracts millions of devotees during the month of Shravan. Thousands of Bol Bam (Kawaria) pilgrims have started collecting in the temple since Sunday evening to pour holy water in the 11th century temple. In Jagannath temple in Puri and Loknath temple, Bhadrak saw huge crowds in temples in Kapilash temple  the hills of Dhenkanal. Strict security arrangements have been made to ensure smooth and incident free philosophy.This month is spread with countless religious festivals and celebrations and it is auspicious for almost all the days of this month.
