Bhubaneswar : A cargo ship coming from Malaysian to Visakhapatnam has been anchored safely near the mouth of Chilika lake at Rajhans under Krushnaprasad block in Puri district affected by a storm in Bay of Bengal.
Due to storm in the sea, the ship lost its direction.There were eight people in the ship and all are, said to be, safe.Among the eight people seven are from Malaysia. one belongs to India.
According to sources, the ship has been stranded at the island for the last two days.Yesterday some fishermen, who had gone for fishing, saw the ship stranded and tried to converse with the people of the ship. But they did not understand their language.So the fishermen informed the local administration.
Goverment officials talked to them came to know that there is technical snag. Engineers and mechanics have been pressed into service to repair the technical glitches.
The ship carrying iron ore and other minerals from Malaysia had unloaded the shipment in Bangladesh and was moving to Vishakhapatnam port to pick up new cargo. But due to bad weather its engine complained technical problem. On the way to Vishakhapatnam it faced a storm. Then it drifted towards odisha coast and landed at Rajhans.
Police staff have been deployed at the spot. Local administration and police IIC have extended all possible help to the crew of the ship
