Speeding Trucks Kill Three Elephants

Keonjhar: Three elephants were killed and another one sustained   injuries after two speeding trucks hit them at NH-20 near Balijodi under Ghatagaon Forest Range in Keonjhar district. The unfortunate incedent occurred last night.

According to forest officials, a herd of elephants was crossing the road in late night.Two speeding trucks hit them on the road.The trucks were on their way to Keonjhar after unloading minerals at Paradeep. 

One one-year old calf elephant and two elephants aged about above 11 years died on the spot. There were nearly 10 elephants in the herd.While three elephants died others narrowly escaped.

Forest department officials have reached at the spot and started investigation. It is alleged that forest department had not taken preventive measures to avoid this type of incident.  

One of the trucks lost control and turned turtle. The driver of the truck managed to escape from the spot. But Police have detained the helper. A case has been registered in the local police station.
