Cyclone Hudhud: 3 districts Affected, 1 Lakh Houses Damaged in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Oct 13: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday reviewed the situation in the aftermath of severe cyclone Hudhud that hit the southern part of the state on Sunday creating extensive damage in three districts: Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati.

Patnaik said that nearly one lakh houses have been damaged due to the cyclone in the southern part of Odisha. The restoration work is in progress. The storm triggered heavy rainfall in Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati districts. However, there is no flood like situation at this moment.

As per the initial estimate 25,000 houses have been damaged in Koraput district, 15,000 houses in Gajapati district, 7,000 in Rayagada and 1000 in Malkangiri. The government has begun relief and rehabilitation in the affected southern districts. The administration has taken immediate steps have been taken for clearing the roads that were blocked due to uprooted trees.
