DA Case: SC grants Bail to Jayalalithaa


New Delhi, Oct 17: In a huge relief to former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, the Supreme Court on Friday granted her the bail in a disproportionate assets case suspending her sentence. The AIADMK chief has been spending her days behind the bar after a special court in Bangalore convicted her in a corruption case and sentenced her to four years in jail.

The apex court granted her the conditional bail on the ground of illness. The AIADMK chief will stay at home and not allowed to go outside home till December 18. The court asked Jayalalithaa to direct her party workers not to create law and order problem in Tamil Nadu. She got bail after the court was assured by her lawyer that there would not be attempts to delay the appeal in the Karnataka High Court.

Celebrations started outside her residence in Chennai and at the AIADMK party office as their chief was granted bail on the 43 birthday of her party today. Jayalalithaa had moved the apex court on October 9 after the Karnataka High Court on October 7 turned down her bail plea as well as of other convicts Sasikala Natrajan, VK Sudhakaran and J Ilavarasi.
