Sambalpur, Oct 20: Six persons were arrested in connection with alleged sexual assault of a minor girl and circulation of obscene MMS and visuals, police said on Sunday.
The arrests were made yesterday based on the complaint filed in Mahila police station by the father of the girl.
"While six persons were arrested, another involved in the incident is yet to be caught. We have identified the accused and efforts are on to nab him soon," said Additional Superintendent of Police, S K Panigrahi.
Those arrested are Ranjan Oram (21), Muna Oram (19), Amira Pradhan (19), Prashanta Dansana (34), Sunil Mirdha (22) and Jayamangal Pradhan.
The incident had taken place in July when the girl had gone with her "boyfriend" to Jamadarpali area in Hirakud Dam's right dyke in the autorickshaw of one Jayamangal Pradhan of Ainthapali area, the ASP said.
Jayamangal, after dropping them at the spot, had informed other accused persons about them who subsequently reached there.
The miscreants forcibly took the girl to an isolated place where Amira Pradhan and the absconding accused sexually assaulted her and others video recorded the crime on a mobile phone.
Up on hearing the cries of the girl, people nearby rushed to the spot and rescued her from the clutches of the miscreants.
Sunil Mirdha, owner of a mobile downloading shop, had allegedly downloaded the video from the mobile phone. "We suspect Sunil Mirdha has a role in circulation of clippings," said Panigrahi.
Though the incident had taken place in July, the victim had not informed her family members till it came to light after circulation of the MMS.
