Social Welfare Department to be opened for Disabled

Bhubaneswar, Oct 21: In a significant development, Odisha government will soon have a special department for disabled and senior citizens as part of welfare measure.

According to a release by CMO, a social welfare department would be opened which would also deal with old age pension. Currently, the issues related to disabled and elderly persons are being looked after by the women and child development department.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by chief minister Naveen Patnaik during review of implementation of welfare schemes for the disabled.

The release said that the district disability rehabilitation centres, operating in eight districts, would be opened in rest 22 districts to facilitate corrective surgery. Also, a special ITI will be opened at Jatni to impart training, and specially installed software would be given to the blind.
