Oscar Pistorius sentenced to 5 years in Jail

Stellenbosch, Oct 21: A South Africa court on Tuesday sentenced Olympic and Paralympic track star Oscar Pistorius to five years in jail for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day last year.

The convict Pistorius wiped his eyes during the pronouncement of sentence for culpable homicide. However, no immediate reaction from his family members or from the relatives of Reeva was seen after the verdict in the courtroom.

The 27-year-old disabled sprinter was taken away by the police officers after the hearing. He testified during the trial that he he shot four times at his girlfriend Reeva, a 29-year-model, through the door with his 9 mm pistol.

Even though, Pistorius had no intention to kill Steenkamp, but he acted negligently. He was also convicted of unlawfully firing a gun in a restaurant weeks before the death of Steenkamp.
