BJP forms Panel to probe Role of Admin in Kandhamal by-poll

Bhubaneswar, Oct 21: Odisha BJP constituted a 6-member committee to inquire into the role of state administration, Asha and Anganawadi workers in Kandhamal alleging misuse of government machinery and money by the ruling BJD to win the Lok Sabha by-poll.

The committee will probe the role of the self help groups (SHG), Child Development Project Officers (CDPO), workers of Anganwadi and Asha and others in administration that were engaged by BJD to influence the voters to win the poll in Kandhamal.

The committee will be headed by senior leader Samir Mohanty. Following the probe, the state BJP will submit the report to the prime minister.

The decision to form the panel was taken at a meeting on Monday alleging BJD over misuse of power and money in the by-poll. BJP national secretary and Odisha in-charge Arun Singh, who was present at the meeting, sought a thorough probe into the matter by the Election Commission.

He alleged that CDPOs were threatening the SHGs to back BJD otherwise their grant would be withheld if votes were not cast for the ruling party in the poll.

BJP has also decided to launch an ambitious membership drive with an aim to induct 40 lakh members in the party from November 1.

However, BJD leaders, including party spokesperson Pratap Keshari Deb, denied the allegations saying it as false and baseless.
