Probe ordered into Drowning Case of 4 Students

Bhubaneswar, Oct 22: An administrative probe has been ordered into the drowning case of four students, who died in the Barang-Puri main canal on Tuesday. The dead bodies of all four students were found from the canal after a long search and rescue operation.

The four students were swept away in the canal near Hanuman Vatika on Tuesday afternoon while they were bathing with other friends. The deceased were identified as Abhijeet Sabat, Bablu Diggal, Manas Nayak and Pratap Routray. While 3 students were found on Tuesday evening, the rescue team found the dead of another one on Wednesday morning.

All the four belonged to BDA Colony and were studying at a government high school in Rail Vihar of Chandrasekharpur area. Their parents and relatives broke down after the news were aired and blamed the school authorities.

According to the report, four friends - Abhijeet, Bablu, Manas and Pratap had visited the canal to take bath. Bablu, Manas and Pratap were drowned and swept away by the strong power in the canal after their friend Abhijeet, who had first entered into the water for bath, did not return for long time. The three jumped to the water in search of their aide, but unfortunately all were swept away. Other friends were shouting for the help following which the locals gathered and informed the police.

The search operations by fire brigade personnel, ODRAF, NDRF and police continued till late night and found three dead bodies. The last one, dead body of Pratap was found today morning.
