Bhubaneswar, Oct 27: Noted Odia writer and freedom fighter Prafulla Das received the prestigious Sarala Award on Sunday evening for his contribution to Odia literature.
The 89-year old Das received the award from veteran Bollywood lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar at a glittering function here. He was also presented a citation, a plaque and a cash award of Rs 2.5 lakh.
The 35th edition of the award was instituted by Indian Metals Public Charitable Trust (IMPaCT), part of IMFA group.
Das takes the credit for his book "Bahinimaan’", which talks about life and times of eminent social worker Malati Chaudhury. He has also written several stories on the poor section of the society.
Apart from Das, veteran Odissi vocalist Shyamamani Devi and painter Shiba Panigrahi were also felicitated with a cash award of Rs 1 lakh, a plaque and a citation each for their contribution to music and art respectively, at the function.
