NGO Chief Khirodh Mallick arrested for duping Depositors of Rs 10 cr

Bhubaneswar, Oct 27: In a big development, the Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of the Odisha Crime Branch police on Monday arrested chief of non governmental organisation "Biswa" Khirodh Mallick for duping the depositors of Rs 10 crore.

Khirodh Mallick, brother of BJD leader Pramila Mallick, was charged with collecting deposits like chit fund companies and cheating the money of depositors. He was arrested from Sambalpur on Monday.

He had allegedly raised money from depositors through various wings of his NGO. Despite an embargo imposed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in June this year, the NGO Biswa continued collecting money from depositors for which the action was taken against the organisation.

With an arrest of Mallick, lots of questions are being raised on the clean governance of BJD after the key leaders like Pravat Tripathy and RC Hansda came under CBI scanner in connection with the mega chit fund scam in Odisha.
