5 sentenced to 10 yrs in Mayurbhanj Gangrape case

Baripada, Oct 29: A local court in Baripada has sentenced five accused to ten years rigorous imprisonment in a gangrape case. They were convicted of raping a tribal woman in Mayurbhanj district last year.

Additional District Judge, Baripada, Sudipta Kumar Acharya on Tuesday had held the five persons guilty under section 376 of IPC (punishment for rape) and sentenced them to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on each of them.

The victim tribal woman while attending to her sick husband at the district headquarters hospital here on January 19, 2013, was raped by six persons. The police had arrested all the six persons. However, one of the six accused died in the prison.
