Odisha sends Recommendation to Centre for POSCO

News

Bhubaneswar, Nov 03: A day after meeting between Posco India CMD Gee Woong Sung and Odisha chief secretary GC Pati, the state government has urged the Centre to grant Prospecting License (PL) in favour of the company for Iron ore over Notified Area of 2082.502 hectares in the Khandadhar mines.

The Steel and Mines department of Odisha in a letter to the Union ministry of Mines has requested it to grant PL to POSCO in Kensara, Bhutuda, Rantha, Batagaon Soreikala, Lusi and Raisuan villages in Sundargarh district for a period of three years under Section 5(1) and 11(3) of Mines and Minerals (Development & Regulation) Act, 1957.

The recommendation was sent within 24 hours of the meeting between the CMD of South Korean major POSCO and chief secretary Patil at State Secretariat here on October 31.

The meeting comes in the backdrop of the Centre that recently sought more clarifications from the state government instead of taking a decision on allowing the companies for the Khandadhar iron mines in Sundargarh district.
