Baripada, Nov 04: A herd of around 70 elephants entered the villages in Mayurbhanj district. According to reports, they had come out of the Dalma sanctuary in neighbouring Jharkhand, and were seen roaming around the villages in Odisha.

Locals left their homes in panic after they failed to drive away the wild animals. However, no damage has been reported so far.

"It is difficult to say whether this herd of pachyderms came from Jharkhand or West Bengal states, but we are trying our best to escort them into Nilagiri forest", said a forest official.

The herd, which includes six tuskers, is believed to entered the Suliapada forests on Monday from Dalma sanctuary in Jharkhand through West Bengal.
