Bhubaneswar, Nov 08: In a big disappointment to Prabodh Tirkey, captain of Kalinga Lancers team in the Indian Hockey League (IHL), he was dropped from the team along with three others including his state mate Manajit Kulu.
Tirkey, Kulu and their two other team members - Jasbir Singh and Gagandeep Singh Banwait - were dropped from the team in the Indian Hockey League on fitness ground.
Sources said that 8 players of Kalinga Lancers had underwent the physical fitness test at Kalinga Stadium here on October 25. The management of the team informed these four players Tirkey, Kulu, Jasbir Singh and Gagandeep Singh about their exclusion from the team in emails on Nov 5.
The management said that they were dropped on grounds of physical fitness.
Expressing displeasure over the IHL's decision, Tirkey said that the League is scheduled to commence from February next year, the physical test should be conducted 30 days before the tournament that is in January. But they underwent the test at short notice.
