New Delhi, Nov 08: Nominated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to participate in the "Swachh Bharat" campaign, Indian cricketer Suresh Raina, stand-up comedian Raju Srivastava and Sufi singer Kailash Kher felt honoured to be part of the cleanliness drive, while Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who was also invited by Modi to join the campaign, gave a smile when asked by media whether he would be part of it.
Modi nominated nine people to join the "Swachh Bharat" campaign in his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi after he cleaned the Assi Ghat in the morning to gear up the Clean Ganga mission. He invited Akhilesh, BJP MP and Bhojpuri Singer Manoj Tiwari, Sufi singer Kailash Kher, stand-up comedian Raju Srivastava and cricketers Suresh Raina and Mohd Kaif to be part of the drive.
Expressing pleasure over the nomination for the cleanliness drive, Raina said that that he would join the campaign after the ODI series with Sri Lanka.
"Honoured to be nominated by @PMOIndia for #SwachhtaAbhiyaan. Will take up the endeavour as soon as I'm in Uttar Pradesh after ODI series," Raina tweeted.
He said that Cleanliness is a reflection of our civilization. It has started as a dream but we should all make it our own mission.
Artist Raju Srivastava said it was a proud moment for him that the Prime Minister had attached his name with the campaign while singer Kailash Kher said it was the duty of every countryman to maintain cleanliness.
"Yathaa Raja Tathaa Praja (Like ruler, Like ruled), @PMOIndia @narendramodi Thank you for nominating n showing faith in Me. for #SwachhBharatMission Proud to be part (sic)," Kher said on Twitter
"So happy 2 have namo's invitation, i think so alike about cleanliness, this will strengthen my wish and willingness about this mission," he said.
"Own your country. Show that you care about it," he tweeted.
However, Akhilesh preferred to give a smile when the reporters at the Chief Minister's office in Lucknow wanted to know about his nomination by Modi to join cleanliness drive.
History witnesses the war of words between BJP and Samajwadi party and the bitterness towards Modi during Lok Sabha elections in which the ruling party SP bite the dust.
This would not be easy for Akhilesh to accept the nomination for the cleanliness drive in UP.
