Ex-DFO sentenced to 32 Months RI in DA Case

Bhubaneswar, Nov 10: The Special Vigilance Court in Bhubaneswar on Monday sentenced an ex-Divisional Forest Officer Abhaya Charan Khuntia to two years and eight months rigorous imprisonment in a disproportionate assets case.

Abhaya Charan Khuntia was convicted on charges of accumulating properties disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The Public Prosecutor of Vigilance Sunil Pati said that the court convicted Khuntia for possessing illegal assets of Rs 7, 69, 860. Besides the 32-month rigorous imprisonment (RI), the court also imposed a fine of Rs 77, 000 on Khuntia.

The Vigilance had arrested the ex-DFO under the Prevention of Corruption Act after conducting raids at his official residence at Khariar and his house at Nayapalli in Bhubaneswar on July 17, 1993.
