Bhubaneswar, No 11: The Centre may consider the Odisha government's proposal of reallocating the coal blocks to some state-owned public sector undertakings (PSUs) and IPPs those have shown progress in their coal projects.

During the visit of Union Coal Secretary Anil Swarup, who reviewed the progress of 15 MCL projects here on Monday, said that the state government has submitted such proposals seeking re-allocation of coal blocks in favour of some PSUs and IPPs.

Earlier, state energy minister Pranab Prakash Das had requested the Union Coal Minister Piyush Goyal to allocate two coal blocks to Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC).

It should be noted that the OPGC lost the coal blocks allocation after the Supreme Court scrapped the licenses of 204 blocks which were allocated between 1993 and 2010.

The minister said that OPGC had made satisfactory progress on its proposed project at its Ib Valley plant and the state government had recommended the grant of mining lease in favour of the firm in December 2012. However, the matter is pending with the department at Centre.
