Haribhau Bagade elected as Speaker of Maharashtra Assembly

Mumbai, Nov 12: As expected, BJP leader Haribhau Bagade was elected unopposed as the Speaker of Maharashtra Assembly.

The result did not come as a surprise after the Shiv Sena and Congress withdrew their nominations for the Speaker, paving the way for the BJP candidate to bag the post.

Earlier today, Shiv Sena candidate Vijay Ahuti withdrew his nomination following party chief Uddhav Thackeray's decision to support the BJP's candidate.

Meanwhile, Congress candidate Varsha Gaikwad also withdrew her nomination after the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) declined to support her.
