Setback to Pravat Tripathy as His Bail Plea rejected

Bhubaneswar, Nov 14: In a big disappointment to Banki MLA Pravat Tripathy, who is lodged in a jail in connection with mega chit fund scam, will be behind the bar for few more days as the special CBI court here rejected his bail plea.

Along with the sitting legislator, the court turned down the bail applications of two builders Vineet Lalani  and Dilip Mohanty - who were arrested by the central agency in connection with the ponzi scam. The trio were remanded to judicial custody till Nov 26.

Following the order, the Tripathy, Lalani and Mohanty were taken to the Jharapada jail amidst security as hundreds of people had gathered outside the court here. A total of 26 accused persons were produced in the two courts today, making it one of the biggest parades of accused in the chit fund scam in the court premises here.

During the argument, Tripathy's counsel had appealed to the court for giving the bail to the suspended BJD leader on several grounds - the forthcoming Assembly session from November 20, his poor health condition in the wake of a hip replacement surgery that he underwent recently and the absence of any evidence other than the audio CD produced in the court.

However, CBI counsel argued against giving him bail saying, he could tamper with the evidence and influence witnesses if allowed to be out of jail.
