Media targeted at Ashram of Rampal in Clashes

Hisar, Nov 18: Several media persons covering the live story of the clashes between security forces and supporters of self proclaimed godman Rampal, were injured on Tuesday as the police beat up targeting them at the ashram in Haryana.

The media was targeted suddenly near the Satlok Ashram after called by police during the clash. The reporters and cameramen were covering the clash from a distance. However, they were beaten up and several sustained injuries.

They were attacked on the hands and legs. The cameras were taken away and broken to stop the recording of the clash. "The police, it was apparent, did not want the clash to be filmed. They broke cameras and other equipment. Journalists were chased into the fields and beaten up. No medical help was provided to them," a TV journalist said.

Reacting to the incident, the Union Home Department has asked the state government seeking explanation from the state police regarding the matter.
