DU Girl murdered by Parents for Inter-caste Marriage

New Delhi, Nov 20: In a shocking incident of "honour killing", a Delhi University girl was allegedly murdered by her parents for marrying a boy of another caste and region in the national capital.

The victim, Bhavna, 21, was the final year student of Sri Venkateswara college in Delhi University. She was allegedly strangled by her parents and uncle at their southwest Delhi home after which her body was taken to her hometown, Alwar, and quietly cremated.

Police arrested her parents - Jagmohan, a property dealer and local Congress party member, and Savitri. They are now looking for the victim's maternal uncle, who played a crucial role in the murder.

The victim had married Abhishek Seth, 24, an assistant programmer at the Cabinet secretariat, at an Arya Samaj temple on Nov 22. Bhavna was a Yadav from Rajasthan while Abhishek is a Punjabi.

However, she was killed just three days after her marriage. She became the victim of her family's anger after her parents persuaded her to come home telling that they had pardoned the couple and they would organise a proper wedding ceremony for them.

The incident created a shock wave in the national capital.
