Rampal sent to Judicial Custody till Nov 28

Chandigarh, Nov 20: Controversial godman Rampal, who was arrested yesterday evening from his ashram in Barwala town of Hisar district in Haryana, was sent to judicial custody till Nov 28 by the Punjab and Haryana high court on Thursday.

However, the court condemned the police crackdown on the followers of the self proclaimed god and asked the Haryana government to submit a report in this connection.

Earlier in the day, the court cancelled the bail application of Rampal in a 2006 murder case.

Rampal, who had been avoiding the arrest challenging the entire system of the country, denied the allegations against him of keeping anyone hostage at his ashram.

According to several media reports, thousands of his followers are still waiting for him at the ashram for the lecture programme scheduled in the evening following his arrest.

The 63-year-old controversial guru has been charged with sedition or waging war against the nation.
