Odisha chit fund scam probe reaches CM office, CBI questions Patnaik aide

Bhubaneswar, Nov 23: The Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the multi-crore Odisha chit fund scam reached the doorsteps of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's office on Saturday.

Patnaik's residence office assistant Saroj has been questioned by the CBI in connection with the case. He was grilled for almost 1.5 hours by the CBI sleuths on Saturday. This comes after the CM's former aide and Rajya Sabha MP Pyarimohan Mohapatra was questioned earlier in the week.

At least three prominent leaders of Patnaik's party Biju Janata Dal, including an MP and an MLA have been arrested so far by the CBI.

Before the CBI started investigating into the chit fund scam after direction from the Supreme court early this year, this case was handled by the Odisha crime branch for two long years. But during this long period the crime branch did not even question a single politician in this huge scam which goes a long way to suggest that the Odisha government has a lot to hide in the chit fund scam.
