Logjam continues in Odisha Assembly, House adjourned for Today

Bhubaneswar, Nov 24: The proceedings in Odisha Assembly were disrupted and the House was adjourned till tomorrow following ruckus created by the Opposition over chit fund scam.

As soon as the House reassembled at 3 pm following the adjournment, the opposition parties raised slogans throwing banners on the Speaker and broke the mike on his podium after he did not allow a motion to have a debate on chit fund scam.

Despite the request of Speaker Niranjan Pujari, the logjam continued and this forced him to adjourn the House for the day till tomorrow.

The Opposition parties were not in a mood to allow the proceedings to run smoothly after the ruling BJD members created uproar in the House in the first hour over Polavaram project.

However, the Odisha Civil Courts (Amendment) Bill was passed and the Odisha Religious Endowments (Amendment) Bill was moved amidst ruckus.

The business advisory committee of the Odisha Assembly convened by the Speaker in the afternoon also failed to resolve the impasse in the House.

Earlier in the day, the House was adjourned till 3 pm after the treasury bench members stalled the House over the alleged negligence of Centre towards the state in providing the central assistance for the restoration and rehabilitation of the work in the areas affected by cyclone phailin last year and hudhud this year, besides polavaram issue.

Leader of the Opposition Narasingh Mishra said that he and other Opposition members walked out of the meeting as the ruling party BJD did not want to move a motion for a debate on the chit fund issue.
