Bhubaneswar, Nov 25: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday urged the Centre to raise the allocation to Rs 1800 crore under the Prime Minister Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) for the financial year 2014-15.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Naveen wrote, "I would request you to consider allocation of Rs 1800 crore for the financial year 2014-15 and release of balance funds at the earliest for smooth implementation of PMGSY programme in the state of Odisha".
The Centre had earmarked Rs 1178 crore under PMGSY for Odisha in the current fiscal of which Rs 1051.50 crore had been released so far.
The Ministry of Rural Development has sanctioned an amount of Rs 17,814.24 crore since inception of the PMGSY. Outof the sanctioned amount Rs 11,982.43 crore had been released and fully spent by the state and this leaves a balance sanction of Rs 5871.41 crore, Patnaik said.
The state had spent Rs 1615 crore under the programme during the 2013-14 fiscal, he added.
He requested to enhance to at least Rs 1800 crore under this programme, adding, the allocation of 1178 crore sanctioned for the current fiscal will not be sufficient. He said that the state has already spent Rs 800 crore out of the released amount.
