Kendrapada, Nov 26: In a shocking incident, a 45-year-old dalit man was lynched by a mob at a village in Kendrapada district for allegedly killing a fellow villager, police said on Wednesday.
The victim Bhikari Sethy had allegedly killed Parsuram Beura, his fellow villager, on Monday in Jamapada village under Patkura police station jurisdiction.
Behera, 34, was stabbed to death while he was returning to his home after taking bath in the river.
Reacting to the incident, a mob comprising the local villagers caught Sethy and brutally assaulted him, said Inspector Patkura Police Station, Jyoti Ranjan Goud on Wednesday.
Bhikari was rushed to the district hospital in Kendrapada on Monday evening. Later, he was shifted to SCB medical college and hospital in Cuttack where he succumbed to injuries.
Police have detained six villagers for questioning. A case has been registered under 302 IPC against unknown assailants.
