Bhubaneswar, Nov 28: Opposing the state government's decision to join the JEE (Main) for admission into engineering courses in the state, Odisha Technical College Association (OTCA) will protest it by staging demonstrations in the state capital.
The association along with members of various private engineering colleges will carry out a candle march today opposing the government's move. They will sit on a dharna on Dec 1 during the ongoing winter session of Odisha Assembly.
Addressing a press meet on Thursday, Biswajit Mohanty, president, OTCA, said that the government has violated Odisha Professional Education Institution ACT 2007 by not reviving Odisha JEE for admission into engineering courses in the state.
It can be noted that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the date for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main scheduled on April 4 next year for engineering and architecture streams.
However, the government decided to opt for the JEE (Main) for admission into engineering courses ignoring the demand of the private engineering colleges, which have been putting pressure to withdraw from the all-India examination (JEE Mains) for admission to premier technical colleges including IIT. They have been demanding to revive the Odisha JEE as many seats are still lying vacant in the engineering colleges in Odisha.
