Congress, BJP demand Resignation of AG

Bhubaneswar, Nov 29: The opposition parties Congress and BJP seem to have united to corner the ruling BJD as both stalled the House demanding resignation of the Advocate General, who suggested the government not to allow a discussion on the chit fund scam in the state.

Both the members met the Governor SC Jamir at Raj Bhawan soon after the House was adjourned and briefed him about the current situation. The BJP will also meet President Pranab Mukherjee, who will have a two-day trip to Odisha from today, seeking AG's resignation.

Strongly reacting to the AG's opinion on the chit fund debate, Leader of Opposition Narashingha Mishra said that AG has violated the Bar Council Conduct rule by giving such suggestion to the government on the burning issue. He called the ruling of the Speaker against the debate on chit fund scam as "Unfortunate" on the basis of suggestion given by AG, who is not a member of the Assembly.

BJP leader Basant Panda spoke in a similar manner alleging AG of advocating out of ethics. Such suggestions to the government clearly indicated that the members of the assembly are not competent and capable of discussing the issue.

Meanwhile, the BJP members gheraoed the residence of AG in Cuttack protesting his opinion on the ponzi scam.
